Magic Tape #11 is up and ready. It's no surprise that this proflific mixer is back at it again with another stellar mix. For those of you who are unaware, The Magician is a former member of the duo Aeroplane. Despite their parting ways, both The Magician and Aeroplane continue to release new mixes every month, and it's always nice to compare the two mixes, taking note of the difference of styles and preferences of genres... Here is is, enjoy! VIVA LA MAGICIAN!
Pandering to drunk people is easy and low and dishonest. I submit to you, brothers and sisters, what is lost in the woozy techno-hysteria of Electroshitty: a song worth LISTENING to...
I submit to you a riposte to the quasi-dubstep that’s smothering the electro/dance aesthetic with a pillow soaked in PBR. (I’m looking at you, Electro$%@##&).Enjoy, brothers and sisters, the menacing hooks and blade-sharp bass lines of our friend in aural care, Danger.

Although the above quote has nothing to do with this post, it does share one commonality with that of French House producer, Etienne De Crey… Ok, not really, but do I like both the quote and De Crey, so that much they do have in common. But moving on…
More recently I’ve been listening to a lot of this somewhat notable French House producer. I say “somewhat notable” because, in my opinion, De Crey doesn’t garner the attention his music deserve. In general he fits the French House model very well, but overall his productions venture into new sounds foreign to the genre. Regardless, he’s still pretty damn good.
This particular track can be found on the soundtrack for the French film 99 Francs, along with other De Crey tracks. While I could find a link for the download, here’s as close as it gets. Instead, the The Bloody Beetroot’s (who were somehow in Memphis last week) remix will have to suffice as provided below.
All Aboard! Straight from Atlanta, GA, the S.O.S. Band hits Soul Train to perform "Take Your Time," on October 11, 1980. Thirty years later, it still impresses. Just watch the video already, and check out other Soul Train performances. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FACTx6fhpLc
We all know John Locke for the notable philosopher, social theorist and brainchild of the social contract that he is, but while Locke help us all discover we’re born into a world free from social impression (aka “blank slate”) he failed to mentioned how “blanche” that slate really was. So, thanks John for the blank slate, but where’s my “blank check”?
Well, I need fear no more as my French home-boys DJ Mehdi and Riton are serving it up a la Cartre Blanche! Cartre Blache hit the road in US for a summer long tour which mysteriously took them to…Oklahoma City? Whatever. They’re doing their thing. Having already remixed the likes of Chromeo and Scissor Sister, Carte Blanch is on a role. Ed Banger announced a new EP from Carte Blanche dropping sometime this fall. Cant wait. DO! DO! DO!
